Every now and then, a new Pinewood Derby product will come out and be somewhat impressive.  Occasionally very impressive.

So, when will the next item be announced that will gain immediate attention from the Pinewood derby world?  That time is now.

Lester Racing and Derby Monkey Garage have teamed to develop the new Starfighter Pinewood Derby Car Kit that is not only a sharp looker but extremely fast as well.  The car body was designed and laser cut by Andy Lester at Lester Racing exclusively for Derby Monkey Garage.  Steve Robbins, AKA Derby Monkey, designed the graphics and paint scheme to like a some sort of space craft from Star Wars.  And then, a new super fast Pinewood Derby car was born.

The Starfighter is no doubt one of the best looking Pinewood Derby car kits ever made.  When Andy saw a photo of the fished product he said, “That is way cool!!  My wife is here with me and she thinks it is beautiful!”

The Starfighter is one of the kits in the Derby Monkey Xtreme Speed Series. This fast car boasts an extremely low profile body at only ¼″ thick.  The included tungsten cubes and weight pockets underneath allow you to adjust the center of gravity to slightly less than ½″ for a lightning fast ride.  This is a BSA legal standard wheelbase car.  The axle holes/slots are drilled/cut perfectly parallel to each other and the left front is raised with the axle holes version so that the wheel makes no track contact.  We′re talking wicked fast here.

The Derby Monkey Xtreme Speed kits are engineered with only one thing in mind… sheer speed.  The body design, weight placement, center of mass, alignment and aerodynamics are all optimized for top performance. These kits come with tungsten weights, polished axles and machined wheels of your choice.

Building super-low profile bodies is a trademark of the Derby Monkey Garage.  All of the derby cars they build for competition are only ¼″ thick.  This thin body creates an extremely aerodynamic car and it allows us to place the majority of the car’s weight exactly where we need it in order to optimize the placement of the center of gravity.  This means more speed.

This kit is legal for most Pinewood Derby and other pine car events.  However, please check your local rules for what cars, kits and components are permitted.

Lead Free: Lead is poison so why put your kid at risk? In 2008 a new consumer-safety legislation was imposed that bans lead from children’s toys, imposing the toughest standard in the world. The new law prohibits lead, beyond minute levels, in products for children 12 or younger.  So, why let your child play with a Pinewood Derby car filled with pure lead?

The Derby Monkey Xtreme Speed Series Kits only uses tungsten for weight.  Tungsten is much safer and heavier than lead.

And another cool thing about this fast Pinewood Derby car kit  is that the wicked cool decals are included.
