The task was to build a winning derby car in two hours.

The result was more than ten teams made up of Notre Dame students and faculty going head-to-head in the Derby 101 competition Saturday afternoon.

With their engineering caps on their heads, and their tools in their hands, the competitors are striving to build, decorate and race their Pinewood Derby Cars.

“College life’s a tough life. This gives them a chance to kick back, have a great time, put some of their skills to work,” Jim Corman from Dremel said.

The winners of the fastest and best designed cars got tools from a company called Dremel, which actually hosted Saturday’s competition.
