The folks that have formed the new Pinewood Derby National Championships event make the claim that they have the authority to award someone with the title of the Pinewood Derby National Champion on August 22, 2009.  Maybe so, maybe not.  There are other national spotlight races that can easily make the same claim.  But regardless, the 2009 Pinewood Derby National Championships will be a Pinewood Derby event that should be worth seeing.  Some of the best car builders from across the nation will converge on Kernersville, North Carolina in hopes of gaining the prestigious title “Pinewood Derby National Champion”.

The new organization does make an excellent point… “Pinewood Derby racing is a huge event for many different organizations all over the Country with hundreds of thousands of cars being raced each year. The competition is fierce but there has always been something missing… a race to crown a National Champion.”  It now looks like we’ll have one.

August 22, 2009 will be the first annual official National Pinewood Championship race to find the best of the best. The National Championship race will be sponsored by Jewkes Engineering and DerbyDad4Hire and sanctioned by the PDDR racing league.

This event will crown Pinewood Derby champions as well as Awana, Royal Ambassador and Royal Ranger champions. There will be 8 different classes to choose from that will accommodate nearly any Pinewood Derby car built.

The race will be held at:
Pinewood Performance Shop
1118-D Old Greensboro Road
Kernersville, NC 27284
