It all began in 2002 when Bill Launius Jr. launched the line of Derby Worx Pinewood Derby tools. Until then, it was difficult for dads and lads to build Pinewood Derby cars that could compete with the guys that had expensive equipment and fancy machine shops.
Utilizing an Okuma CNC lathe, Derby Worx now designs and manufactures a complete line of innovative tools for building and improving the performance of Pinewood Derby cars. The main focus of the Derby Worx Pro Tool line is to help parent and child teams build highly competitive cars with precision and be able to compete with those families with access to machine shops and other expensive equipment.
With the assistance of Warp Speed Inc., Derby Worx also manufactures a full line of super high performance wheels and axles. The BSA Pro Ultralite Wheels weigh in at only 1.0 grams and are extremely fast. Derby Worx has several BSA wheel models that are wicked fast and a set to fit any pack or district rules. Many BSA District Championships have been won using Derby Worx wheels.
Talk about extra cool wheels. The Derby Worxs Pro Razor Xtreme (RSX) wheels for modified and pro stock derby cars are there. These are the ultimate wheels for open competition scout races. These are the fastest Pinewood Derby wheels we have ever raced. The RSX wheels are perforated precision machined wheels that are extremely light weight at a mere 0.80 oz. These wheels are completely machined from raw material not molded. This creates a perfectly balanced and symmetric wheel.
Bill’s demand for quality products, high performance and attention to detail has made Dery Worx, Inc. the most respected name in the Pinewood Derby industry.
Bill is expecting a huge 2009 derby season. Derby Worx has a few tricks up their sleeves in the form of some new SUPER fast wheels that may take the industry by storm. Just more proof that Derby Worx continues to be on the cutting edge of the Pinewood Derby.
